It was clear from my research that the top 10 most valuable PlayStation game consoles were mine. A lot of the research done before for valuable games isn’t a deep dive into the auctioning world. This article is meant to give readers an opportunity to explore this world.
Anybody can see which PlayStation games are selling the highest in terms of revenue. It is so fascinating to see the amount of money that has been spent, but it is so inhospitable to the average person. This article will look at the most expensive PlayStation games ever sold, using data from the most popular auction websites that also sell video games.
10/10 Spyro ($31,200)
Heritage Auctions’ website sold a copy Spyro for $31,000. WATA was the company that graded this copy. What this means is that WATA games rate the condition of the box and what’s inside of it from 1-10 then grade the condition of the game’s seal from C to A++.
This copy received a WATA 9.6 A+ sealed rating. This means that the copy is in excellent condition with very minor scuffs. This title is also the first production version of the game, which is why it is so expensive. In April 2021, a higher-graded Spyro was available but it was not the first production version.
9/10 Tekken($38,400)
Heritage Auctions sold Tekken for $38,400. This version of the game was awarded a WATA 9.4A sealed score. This means the game didn’t score the best but pretty well overall.
This version of the game is very special. This variant is very rare, not only because of the grading but also because it has a double security error. It is unlikely that there are any other Tekken with this exact grading. Tekken also happens to be one of the most sold fighting game franchises so that must’ve made this a highly sought-after game.
8/10 Grand Theft Auto $40,800
Heritage Auctions sold Grand Theft Auto on October 29, 2021 for $40,800. Grand Theft Auto received a WATA 9.6 B++ sealed score. This means that the box was in excellent condition and the seal was perfect.
This is the second-highest graded Grand Theft Auto version Heritage has sold. This copy is more valuable than the original copy because it is a first production copy. This is the Grand Theft Auto version that launched it all. It was played from a top down perspective, as opposed to the mixed first- and third-person perspectives that the latest rendition brings.
Marvel Vs Capcom Clash of Super Heroes sells on the Golden Auctions site for $47,000 It has a WATA 9.8 A++ Score. This makes this game nearly perfect in its rating meaning that it’s very close to the condition it was produced in.
Many are familiar with the game. It still has its security label and tear-strip on the box it is kept in. This game is an iconic piece of fighting game history and is highly regarded. It allows players to fight each other using Marvel and Capcom characters.
6/10 Crash Bandicoot (48k)
Crash Bandicoot sells at Heritage Auctions for $48,000. This game received a WATA 9.4 A sealed rating. This rating is not the highest of all the games on the list, but it’s still great for this particular game. Playstation’s jewel cases were some of the most breakable game cases to exist.
Crash Bandicoot came in one of those cases. It is still in good condition. This game is a classic that will always be remembered as introducing one of Sony’s first platforming mascots: Crash Bandicoot. It was also the first platformer to use 3D elements, but it plays primarily like a 2D platformer.
5/10 Doom ($66,000).
Heritage Auctions was able sell Doom on PlayStation for $66,000. This was an early production Ridged Longbox edition WATA 9.6 A+ sealed copy. It is one of the most difficult games for PlayStation game collectors. These were the original boxes used by PlayStation games before the move to jewel cd cases. These boxes are often mistreated but this one is almost mint.
This copy is also the special PlayStation edition, which makes it unique. It is important to note that the title Doom was not a Doom title. Instead, it was a Doom II: Hell on Earth game and an additional Doom game: The Ultimate Doom.
4/10 Final Fantasy VII ($144,000).
Heritage Auctions sold Final Fantasy VII at an incredible $144,000. The game has a WATA 9.8 A+ sealed rating and is the only copy of the “Masterpiece” Corrected, later production variant in its condition. There were many other versions with drill holes in them, which indicated that the copy was promotional or employee-issued.
It is a beloved Final Fantasy game so it’s not surprising that it sold for such a high price. The game revolutionized the way stories are told and pulled players into a magical world.
3/10 Tomb Raider ($144,000).
Heritage Auctions sold Tomb Raider totaling $144,000 This is due to many reasons. It received a WATA 9.4 seal score. This is huge news in the Tomb Raider world. It is rare to find an original Tomb Raider game in such pristine condition.
Lara Croft isn’t the first female to make an appearance in video games, but she is still a prominent figure in gaming. According to developers, her design was intended to counter the over-sexualization and abuse of women in gaming. People are likely to bidding high for the game because of its role in gaming history, and the enjoyment it provides.
Heritage Auctions sold Twisted Metal at $156,000 This game was awarded a WATA 9.6 A+ sealed rating. This variant is also available in the original Ridged Longbox. It was also one of the first production copies, so it was created in 1995.
Twisted Metal set the standard for many combat racers to follow. Due to its darker themes, Twisted Metal has a large following. This game was purchased in near-perfect condition and is a rare find.
1/10 Resident Evil ($264,000)
Heritage Auctions sold Resident Evil for $264,000 This game has a WATA 9.6 A+ sealed rating inside a Ridged Longbox. This is also the first edition of this game. This game is unique in that there are fewer than ten copies known to exist in sealed condition.
