Microsoft’s Xbox streaming console, codenamed Project Keystone (codenamed Project Keystone), was put on hold as it was too costly to make.
Phil Spencer, Xbox boss, said that Microsoft could not create a streaming-only console at a reasonable price. Spencer said that Project Keystone would be sold for $99-$129. However, Microsoft does not take a cut on each console it sells. The streaming-only machine was too expensive.
Spencer stated that the console Keystone that people have seen was more costly than we expected it to be after we actually built it with the hardware we had. “We decided to focus that team’s efforts on delivering the smart TV streaming app.”
Spencer pointed out that Project Keystone is a less expensive option than the Series X, which sells for $499. This is especially important considering Xbox already offers a Series S next-generation console for $299.
“I don’t want to announce pricing specifically, but I think you’ve got to be $129, $99, somewhere in there for that to make sense in my view,” he said.
Xbox has increased its efforts to make gaming more accessible and available by expanding the options to play “on Xbox” to include mobile devices, PCs, and the smart TV app.
