You’re just starting to play Warhammer, but aren’t quite sure what each operative does? Then you’re in the right place – we’ve compiled a Darktide classes guideThis will teach you about the various classes and operatives within the game. At the time of launch, there are only four different classes, so there’s not a lot you need to get your head around! There could be more classes in the future, so make sure to check back often so you are up-to-date.
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a new co-op FPS game that’s recently released. Like many survival-shooters, the game puts you in a small group of four to fight what seem like an endless number of flesh-eating beasts. Within the game, you can play as one of four operatives/classes, and that’s what we’ll be discussing today…

Darktide Classes
Now, let’s take a look at a list of the Darktide classes.
Skullbreaker
Ogryns in Warhammer lore are massive tanks that are capable of challenging hordes or enemies. While all operatives are good at this, the Skullbreakers’ special advantage is that they’re good for taking on the elites.
Without a Skullbreaker in your group, you’ll notice how quickly you can get overwhelmed by the elites, emphasising the key role and importance of this tanky operative.
Psykinetic
The Psykinetic operative is a psychic mutant who draws power from Immaterium to gain psychic powers and telekenetic abilities.
Some among the community compare this operative’s lack of multi-casting to the overcharge system seen in previous Warhammer games. As said system was unpopular, it’s reasonable that a lot of the community will stay away from Psykinetic until they are forced to explore their abilities.
Sharpshooter
What we love about the Sharpshooter operative is that it does exactly what it says on the tin – long range firepower that’s high in damage. These attributes enable the Sharpshooter’s success in fighting elites and specialist, provided you keep away from them. The only real downside for this operative is if you’re a trigger-happy shooter that runs out of ammo too quickly.
Preacher
Preacher, the Darktide’s least-known operative, is known for his voice lines dedicated the Emperor and throwing grenades half the speed of Sharpshooters. Not only that, but Preacher’s chainsaw is riddled with incompetency, as the build-up to the full effect leaves you in a vulnerable state.
It should also be noted that when lasting through longer waves, it’s recommended that you have higher levelled gear, much more so than your team-mates.
When an operative already has so many factors turned against them, it just makes you wonder – why are you still playing as them?
Darktide Classes FAQ
Now that we’ve discussed the different operatives in the game, we’ll move onto some of the questions you might have thought of whilst reading our guide.

Let’s take a look at where each class falls under the “Holy Trinity” of class types.

This subheading is for classes that are able to absorb attacks from all angles.

It’s no doubt that these operatives fall under this category. It’s just a shame that these 2/4 operatives are considerably less desirable than the rest.
What’s the best Darktide class?
It’s easy for us to rule out Preacher and Psykinetic, but you might want to consider Sharphooter and Skullbreaker based on your playstyle. Check out our Darktide Classes Tier List to see what we recommend.
