Web3 has been a buzzword since its inception. People are now talking about the possibilities for the future internet. Although the concept is not yet mainstream, industry giants have begun exploring the space to see the potential. Let’s have a look at some famous companies who have already placed their foot in the next iteration of the internet.
Disney
The entertainment company launched a 3D 360 virtual adventure that allowed users explore the soundtracks and songs of several movies and shows that it had produced previously. You could find titles such as WandaVision and Shang Chi, Shang Chi, The Legend of The Ten Rings, Hocus Pocus, and many more. Bob Chapek was the former CEO of the company. He described it as the next generation for storytelling.
They announced in July 2022 that the Accelerator Class would be focusing on immersive experiences using technologies such as artificial intelligence, augmented realities, and non-fungible tokens.
Gucci
The first major fashion brand to enter the Web3 space was a high-end Italian luxury brand. The company announced in February 2022 that they had acquired a virtual land plot within The Sandbox, a metaverse game. The company revealed Gucci Vault Land, which allowed users to explore NFTs related to the organization.
In May 2022, they also released a Gucci Town on Roblox. This initiative was permanent, unlike the Gucci Vault, which was more of a temporary experience.
Samsung
South Korean multinational conglomerate of manufacturing opened its Samsung837X store at Decentraland in January 2022. The company also announced that they will include an “NFT” feature in their smart TV. The store will be located in New York City. Interesting features in Samsung’s 837X experience remained the Connectivity Theater, Sustainability Forest and the Customization Stage.
Since its inception, the company has been actively exploring blockchain technology. It also offered crypto wallet support to its Galaxy series.
McLaren Automotive
This year, the British luxury car brand announced plans to enter web3. Tezos blockchain hosted their 7-page NFT comic. The story is about the journey of mcLaren interns to complete a task given by Zak Brown, their CEO to monitor Speedy K Kiwi (the Head of Speed), who eventually escapes to begin his journey across the Asian continent.
Before that, the organization revealed their initial NFT drop dubbed “Genesis Collection” for their McLaren Special Operations (MSO) Labs virtual community. The iconic McLaren P1 & P1 GTR are featured in the collectible.
