Animal Crossing’s sitting mechanic is common in most games.
For example, there’s a different method of sitting on furniture than sitting on the part of the map. To get the best out of it, you must be familiar with all controls in the game.
How to Sit on a Chair or a Bench
Animal Crossing requires that you have a chair and/or a bench. In case you haven’t placed your chair yet, just do the following:
- Click the X button to open the inventory and locate the seat or the bench.
- Once you’ve got your eyes locked on the piece of furniture, press A to select it.
- Lastly, in the now-popped-up options, select “Place Item”.
Once you’ve found a bench or chair, move toward it and the game will recognize your gesture and allow your character to sit on it.
How to Sit on the Ground
Unlike the near-autonomous sitting-on-the-chair gesture, you’d have to work a bit harder for this one. Just do the following steps, and you’d be good to go:
Step #1: Purchase The Hip Reaction collection
In order to get the Hip Reaction Collection, you’d have to pay a visit to the Nook Stop. Follow these steps to get the Hip Reaction Collection from there:
- Begin by going to the counter and choosing the Redeem Nook miles option.
- To purchase the item, you will need to spend around 2,700 Nook Miles
Once done, you’d be able to sit on the ground.
Step #2: Sit on The Ground
Since you’ve already obtained The Hip Reaction Collection in Animal Crossing, it’s time to sit on the ground. Just repeat the following steps, and you’d be on the ground in no time:
- First, press “ZR” button in order to open the Reactions menu.
- Then, press the “Y” button to see all your available reaction.
- Within the list, scroll to find the one named “Sit Down”.
- Lastly, choose it, and press the “A” button.
Congratulations, now your character is on the ground!

To unlock the Sit Down emotive, all you need is 2700 Nook Miles. There are no in-game mechanisms that will make you sit down.
But, it is not possible to sit on furniture such as a seat on a bench or chair. You can just move toward them. However, there aren’t many spots where you’re able to place your furniture, so it’s better to get the emote!
