Next week is CES 2023.
Tech professionals from all walks of the tech industry make the annual pilgrimage to Las Vegas every year to experience the latest technology. It’s an overwhelmingly fascinating experience with most of us feeling like kids in a candy store.
It was amusing to see how many exhibitors used the term Metaverse in their booths this year. This even lead to an XR professional’s Twitter thread going viral after he walked around the show citing every mention of the word and the results were overwhelming!
Despite the storm tech has endured, 2023 will see the Metaverse and Web3 get their own space. This time in the Las Vegas Convention Center’s (LVCC) Central Hall.
In a recent episode of the CES Tech Talk podcast, Kinsey Fabrizio, the Consumer Technolgy Association’s Senior Vice President of Membership and CES Sales, shared what to expect at CES 2023. She revealed that there will be a portion of the show dedicated gaming, the Metaverse, Web3 and other topics in Central Hall. She revealed that it’s going to be a really exciting part of the show floor with CoinDesk’s Web3 studio being located in Central Hall. Interviews with influential Web3 voices will be conducted. The studio will also provide the latest news in crypto and blockchain news.
For many, the CES Central Hall is what they refer to as traditional CES. The LVCC Central Hall is where the largest exhibitors are most likely to be found. With Coindesk’s Web3 Studio located in the LVCC Central Hall, it will be a focal point of Web3, the Metaverse, and blockchain at CES. CoinDesk will host visionaries from the industry and leaders in technology to discuss the most important developments across all industries and technologies. I will be speaking alongside other professionals about my book that launched in January.
Digital Hollywood offers a partner track called Digital Hollywood: Hollywood Streaming & the Metaverse. The tracks opening sesion is titled Web3, XR, Metaverse & the entertainment consumer and it is the first session of CES that tackles the subject. With colleagues from AMD, Nokia and Microsoft as well as Shutterstock and NPR, Shutterstock (and Brett Leonard), who is the director of Lawnmower Man, a 90s SciFi classic, I will be part of a panel. The session will take place at 9 a.m. at Aria.
CES 2023 also includes a Metaverse & Gaming track with sessions like Gaming to Lead us into the Metaverse. The discussion will include luxury and fashion.
There is also a Creator Economy & NFTs Talk track. Web3: Fad Or The Future? The Changing Metaverse Landscape – Opportunities and Challenges
Parallel to CES there are many other side events, demos, panels and activities.
While the current situation to many may seem to be a “Metaverse winter,” it is, in reality, springtime. This is only the beginning of the growth in this new field, with AI and XR occupying the center stage as we work towards the future of Metaverse in the next ten years. You might be able to imagine what CES 2033 would look like.
