PlayStation Productions was established in 2019 by Sony Interactive Entertainment. They aim to break the tradition of poor video game adaptations and have a hand in every Movie or TV Show that is produced. Announced as an initial ten-project slate, here’s where each project is in its production, and if it’ll be a movie or TV series.
Uncharted
The long-in-development project was the first to be released under the Playstation Productions label. Uncharted movie kicked-off Playstation’s film slate, with an unexpected approach to adapting the best-selling action-adventure series from developer Naughty Dog. Rather than translating the first game’s story into a feature film, Uncharted Acts as the origin story for the franchise. In this film, Tom Holland plays a younger Nathan Drake, who falls into the world of high-stakes treasure hunting when he meets Victor “Sully” Sullivan, played by Mark Walhberg.
Although the film received mixed reviews, it was released in February 2022 and grossed over 400 million dollars, just as theaters reopened after the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many ways to describe it. Uncharted’It is the mere existence of existence that is the greatest accomplishment. The Last of Us

It is a fitting adaptation for HBO. The Last Of Contact Us TV Show is also building goodwill with fans by including the original games’ narrative director Neil Druckmann as Co-Writer and Director on a few episodes.
Let’s just say, there is a lot of anticipation. The Last Of Contact Us series, especially with Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin is the showrunner. The series just began to release its first looks, and recently dropped a trailer. The Last Of Contact Us (HBOThe premiere of ) will be held on January 15, 2023.
Gran Turismo
This is the most intriguing adaptation. Gran Turismo Originated as a racing game on the first PlayStation console. It went on to become one of the most popular PlayStation games with more than 90 million copies sold. Gran Turismo This driving simulator has no protagonist or in-game story. Therefore, the film adaptation of the driving sim will attempt to include it in its own story. Directed and produced by District 9’s Neill Blomkamp, the movie will feature a teenage Gran Turismo A player who becomes a real-life driver of a racecar. This original story approach is a highlight for PlayStation Production’s slate, showing the variable approach to adaptation that each project is taking.
Another favorite PlayStation auto series is Twisted Metal bucks conventional races for “car-combat”, as drivers attempt to destroy each other in their own weapon-laden cars, motorcycles, and ice cream trucks. The games’ story revolves around a Mortal KombatThe tournament is akin to a carnival, and the demon Calypso offers one wish for the driver who survives.
Universal Television and Peacock announced the creation of a TV Series. Created by Deadpool Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and
Paul Wernick, the adaptation hopes to model the original games’ grimy, sadistic aesthetic and dark sense of humor. Anthony Mackie has been cast as the series lead, John Doe, with Will Arnett providing the voice to the series’ famous killer clown, Sweet Tooth. Twisted Metal (Peacock) recently completed filming Its first season is expected to air sometime in 2023.
God of War
PlayStation Productions’ most recent announcement, God of War The Santa Monica Studio-created franchise will be adapted into a television series. Produced by Amazon Studios, it will follow the Norse Mythology Saga that began in the games’ fourth installment, with the rebooted title God of War. The stOry follows the franchise’s lead, the Spartan warrior Kratos, now much older and having to prepare his son Atreus for war with gods like Thor and Odin. This particular entry was praised for its rehabilitation of the character of Kratos, who in previous games only sought vengeance, and the game’s innovative camera style, which emulated a one-take approach found in films like Birdman or 1917.
Amazon has already hired, even though no casting has been made. Children of Men Iron Man Hawk Otsby and Mark Fergus will write, Wheel of Time’s Rafe as Showrunner. Like Neil Druckmann and The Last of Us, God of War (2018)’s Writer/Creative Director Cory Barlog has confirmed his involvement in the adaptation.
Horizon
With PlayStation Productions’ plan to co-produce its projects alongside large entertainment studios, it’s no surprise that Netflix jumped in on the action. The streaming giant decided to adapt the project. Horizon Guerilla Studios created franchise and it has two installments. Horizon: Zero Dawn Playstation 4 and Horizon: Forbidden West Playstation 5. Horizon is set on Earth thousands of years later than its own apocalypse. Now, it has been overrun with dinosaur-like machines and plant life. Aloy, an alien from the surviving human tribes discovers a link with a scientist from her past that was alive in 2010.
Netflix will provide you with access to the entire Netflix library as part of a multiyear agreement. Umbrella Academy Steve Blackman, showrunner, is expected to co-showrunner along with Michelle Lovretta. No release date has been set yet.
Gravity Rush
Most likely the least identifiable title on slate Gravity Rush (also known as Gravity Daze) is a Japan-favorite series that originated on PlayStation’s cult handheld, the PS Vita. The games have released two installments so far. They follow Kat, who can manipulate her own gravity as she defends Hekseville. Scott Free Productions will co-produce this adaptation as a feature movie. Secret Society of Second-Born Royals’ Anna Mastro directing from a script by The Black List-charting writer Emily Jerome.
Gravity Rush It has been praised for its creative use of physics in a game and for its beautiful watercolor-like art design. Scott Free Productions almost exclusively makes live-action films, despite the fact that its aesthetic suggests an animation.

This was created by Sucker Punch Studios, a mainstay in PlayStation gaming. Ghost of Tsushima takes a true historical event, the first Mongol invasion of Japan’s Tsushima Island during the 13th century, and imbues it with next-generation action. The story follows Jin Sakai, an aspiring samurai who uses immoral tactics to defeat the Mongols. The game is deeply rooted in the tradition of Samurai Films, even sporting a “Kurasawa Mode” which changes the visual aesthetic to a grainy black-and-white film stock. It was not only successful but also credited for creating a new interest in Tsushima Islands, which resulted in the game developers being appointed official ambassadors to the island.
Director Chad Stahelski (John Wick, Chapter FourRecently, he shared with us that he wanted the movie to feature an entirely Japanese cast and be shot entirely in Japanese. With the support from Sony and the Tsushima Island itself Ghost of Tsushima has the potential to be one PlayStation Productions’ most authentic, impactful adaptations.
A Secret 10th Project
Tony Vinciquerra (CEO and Chairman of Sony Pictures) stated that the initial slate would consist of ten projects when PlayStation Productions was formed. This leaves at least one project unannounced, although it’s likely this number has only grown since. What is it?
While it’s possible to revive canceled projects like the animated Sly Cooper film, the most likely option is Uncharted 2. There will be a follow up to Uncharted (2022) is not confirmed, the original film’s 400+ million box office gains are enough to warrant a sequel. The film also included a final scene, which set the stage for Nathan and Sully’s next treasure hunting adventure as they seek El Dorado.
