Damar Hamlin of the Bills has been released nine days after he suffered a cardiac arrest. After spending two days at Buffalo General Medical Center, Hamlin returned to Buffalo. He was transferred to Buffalo after spending last week at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where the 24-year-old experienced what doctors called “a remarkable recovery.” Neither doctors nor the Bills disclosed the results of the tests Hamlin had. Doctors indicated that he would continue his rehabilitation with Bills.

Jaylen brown scored 41 points, and the Boston Celtics had 12 rebounds. On Wednesday night, the Boston Celtics beat the New Orleans Pelicans by 125 to 114. Jayson Tatum had 31 points and 10 rebound, Malcolm Brogdon had 20 points and Al Horford had 14. Al Horford made four 3-pointers. The Celtics won their five previous home games. CJ McCollum scored 38 points in New Orleans. This was his fifth consecutive game of at least 25 points. Trey Murphy III scored 15 and Naji Marshall added 18 for New Orleans. The Pelicans lost three of the four.
Pascal Siakam was able to score 28 points. Gary Trent Jr. scored 24. The Toronto Raptors beat Charlotte Hornets by 132-120 on Tuesday night. O.G. O.G. In 44 attempts, the Raptors scored a record 20 3-pointers. Toronto won six consecutive games this season. The Raptors have not won three straight games this season. Terry Rozier had 33 points, LaMelo ball had 24 points, and Charlotte had a record 14 assists.
Domantas Sabonis scored 25 points, had 14 rebounds, and provided nine assists to help the Sacramento Kings defeat the skidding Houston Rockets 135 115. De’Aaron Fox added 24 points and nine assists for Sacramento. Trey Lyles scored 15 out of his 20 points in the fourth period off the bench. Keegan Murray finished with 16 and Harrison Barnes with 16. Alperen Sengün became the youngest center in NBA history with a triple-double. Houston’s 20 year old star finished with 10 points (10 rebounds and 10 assists) JalenGreen scored 26 points for the Rockets. They have lost eight straight games and 13 of their last 14 in a row. Kenyon Martin Jr. scored 21 points off the bench.
Ja Morant stepped in to help a young Memphis Grizzlies fans who had her valuable basketball stolen. Ellie Hughes, an 11-year-old Grizzlies fan, was trying to get Morant’s attention for an autograph at Monday’s game against San Antonio when two people swiped her special ball. Hughes, of Forrest City, Arkansas, had collected players’ signatures on the ball for the past six years. Hearing of her plight through social media, Morant reached out to her family, invited her to Wednesday night’s rematch against the Spurs and then gave her his game-worn jersey and Ja 1 Nike shoes, which haven’t been released to the public yet.

Trevor Story, Red Sox’s infielder, had surgery on his throwing arm and will likely miss a large portion of the 2023 season. Boston reports that Story had an internal bracing procedure performed on his right ulnar collateral. Texas Rangers team physician, Dr. Keith Meister, was treated at Texas Metroplex Institute in Arlington. Texas. Instead of having to undergo a Tommy John procedure, the internal brace procedure fixes an existing ulnar collateral. This less-invasive procedure can allow for a quicker recovery. However, this can take up to six months.
Rafael Devers holds $75 million in deferred salary in his new contract with Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox committed $331 million over 11 season to third baseman, but will not fully repay the money until 2043. Boston has signed Wednesday a 10-year, $313.5 million contract that covers 2024 to 33. It follows a $17.5million-per-year agreement that was reached Jan. 3.
Devers signed a long-term agreement worth $20 million, which includes $5 million each February 2023-2026. He earns $27.5million per year starting in 2024-26 and $31million annually beginning in 2027-30. In addition, he receives $29 million for each season from 2031-33. $7.5 million of the long-term contract will be deferred in each season. The money will be paid 10 years from the end of the season it is earned. Half of it will be due on February 1st and half on November 30th. If Devers is traded, Devers would be eligible for a $2 million assignment bonus. This bonus will be paid by the receiving team.
Devers was the AL’s starting All-Star third baseman each of the past two years. Devers batted.295 last season with 42 doubles. 27 home runs and an additional 88 RBIs.
Boston hopes to rebound after finishing last in AL East with 78-84. The Red Sox won 92 of their 2021 games and reached the AL Championship Series.
The Red Sox reached an agreement with Justin Turner for a two-year, $21.7 million contract. He will receive an $8.3million salary this year as well as a $13.4million option for 2024, which includes a $6.7million buyout and a $13.4million player option. Turner can also earn $1 million in performance bonuses based on plate appearances. He will receive $200,000 for every 480 plate appearance and an additional 20 through 560.

Minnesota’s medical staff felt more comfortable with an ankle repaired in 2014. The Twins signed a six-year, $200 million agreement.

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel says quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Sunday’s playoff game against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa is not yet cleared to resume football activities. Skylar Thompson will start for the Dolphins against the Bills in the third round of this season’s playoffs. Backup Teddy Bridgewater is getting back to full strength following the dislocation of his pinky finger.
Lamar Jackson was not present during the section open to reporters. The Baltimore star hasn’t practiced since injuring his knee in a Dec. 4 win over Denver. There was no sign of him Wednesday as the Ravens prepared for Sunday night’s playoff opener at Cincinnati. Jackson was not available for the last five regular-season games. Tyler Huntley played in the first four games, but he was suffering from shoulder problems and didn’t play in the final game of the regular season. Anthony Brown was the first to play in that game.
The Dallas Cowboys will be focusing on a playoff rebuild with a defense that was not as dominant as it was in the early part of the season. Dallas will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in a wild-card match. Jayron Kearse, safety, is taking a difficult turn towards 2023. He said that the regular season doesn’t matter anymore. The Cowboys’ defense was the key to their 4-1 record after quarterback Dak Prescott broke his thumb in the loss to the Bucs. The final four weeks of the playoffs saw that unit struggle to be as dominant.

Heisman-winning tailback dies at 64
Charles White, a Southern California tailback who won Heisman Trophy 1979, has died. He was 64. USC announced the death of White, who is still the Trojans’ career rushing leader with 6,245 yards. According to the school, White died from cancer after a nine-year career in the NFL. White was a two-time All-American and won the national title in 1978. He then claimed the Heisman award in the following season when he captained Trojans, leading the nation in yards running. White was the Trojans’ leader in rushing during each of his three final seasons. He was a member of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, and Cleveland Browns.
