NPD Group has published the year-end results of December 2022. It revealed that Nintendo Switch is the top-selling console in 2022 in terms of unit sales.
According to NPD’s Mat Piscatella, the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console of December 2022 and the entire year in unit sales. For December 2022, the PlayStation 5 was the most popular console in terms of dollar sales. The Nintendo Switch also ranks second in total dollar sales for 2022.
2022’s Modern Warfare 2 – Call of Duty According to US NPD results it was the top-selling game in December 2022. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet It was ranked second for December 2022, and sixth overall. A plethora number of new games will likely drive the gaming market to even greater heights in 2023.
“U.S. consumer spending on video game content, hardware and accessories totaled $7.6 billion in December 2022 – an increase of 2% when compared to a year ago – bringing full year 2022 spending to $56.6 billion. Factors impacting 2022 spending included continued supply constraints of console hardware, a relatively light slate of new premium releases and macroeconomic conditions,” said Mat Piscatella, NPD Group video game industry advisor. “With a highly anticipated slate of new games and the reduction or even elimination of console hardware supply constraints, 2023 could very well see the market return to growth.”
Nintendo plans to publish its nine month earnings release for fiscal year ending March 2023, on February 7.
