The metaverse has been busy lately with lots more exciting stuff.
UN Environment Programme (UNEP) is one such entity. It aims to increase access to education for students around the world by using new technology.
A new initiative was launched recently. Free online tool The Ozone Secretariat is an UNEP office that addresses issues and concerns regarding ozone layer agreement and treaties. It was launched in metaverse by them. A new simulator game uses avatars from the in-game to allow players to make use of this tool.
Ozone Secretariat’s Metaverse Game
The new game titled “Apollo’s Edition” is a new addition to the main game platform launched by UNEP called “Reset Earth”. This platform is a host for various educational metaverse games that teaches players aged 13 to 18 years old about environmental education, mostly about the dangers of not protecting the planet’s ozone layer, its consequences, and how to help in its recovery.

Apollo, an educational and guiding character in the game, is introduced. know more about the ozone layer protecting Earth’s inhabitants. Apollo’s movements, expressions, and emotions were produced thanks to motion capture technology (wherein a real-life actor is recorded doing all of those), according to Mirage News.
The players then are tasked to make important in-game decisions, wherein each of those decisions will have a significant impact on the game’s progression. There are four options available to players. The game then visualizes the result of each choice.
Metaverse For Education And Being Accessible To Many
Aside from gaming, the metaverse is also now being used for educational purposes, similar to UNEP’s Reset Earth. The metaverse can be used to teach a variety of educational purposes (e.g. It can be used to teach students in the virtual domain, who are unable to attend physical classes. Frontiers.

Students and other users can access the metaverse provided they have the right device such as a smartphone or computer. The VR/AR headsets, along with sensors for the feet, hands, and body, can create an immersive experience for users, stimulating their physical presence in the metaverse.
Many users would also be less affected by location and time because the metaverse is primarily online. They can access the metaverse as long as they have regular internet connectivity or 4G/5G connections.
