Activision revealed the Season 2 roadmap after a two week delay. This includes Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as well as its free-to download companion game Warzone 2.0.
A long list of updates include new maps for both the games, return of popular modes and even a new watercraft car. It will also add ranked multiplayer to Modern Warfare 2 which will provide “plenty” of rewards and bragging right.
Season 2 of both games is scheduled to launch on February 15, at 9 a.m. PST.

Activision detailed the updates in a blog post. They also revealed Warzone’s new Ashika Island map, which is Japanese-themed. Here is the official description.
High Moon Studios developed Ashika Island, a centuries-old village under attack by Shadow Company forces. Operators can navigate the island’s misty waters to find an old shipwreck and ruins as well as modern apartments and the town center. There is also a bustling port, a bustling beach club, an organic farm and the castle that towers above the entire island. They might even find hidden pathways on rooftops or underground waterways that can be used to perform stealthier maneuvers.
The island is suited for Resurgence Mode, Activision says — a variant on the traditional battle royale formula built around respawns and smaller maps.
Additional features include:
- Modern Warfare 2 has two core maps and two battlemaps. For the duration of Season 2, the main maps will be Museum (6v6) and Dome (6v6).
- There are “half-dozen modes”, including Hardcore Mode which is considered a series standard.
- Episode 2 of Raid is a continuation of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign.
Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2 were released last year. They proved popular and generated long wish lists from fans. Because of “player feedback”, the delayed Season 2 update was later postponed.
In our review of Warzone 2 we wrote, “Building on the already rock-solid foundation of the original Warzone, Warzone 2.0 is a positive update to Call of Duty’s battle royale mode, even with few drawbacks of its own.”
The UK’s Competition and Markets Authority released its first findings regarding the Activision Blizzard merger earlier this day. The CMA claimed that the deal would ultimately harm gamers. However, Phil Spencer from Xbox says that he is confident that the deal will be approved.
