According to a leak, Sony might be working on something new. PlayStation hardware. The information is not complete, but it is possible that the new PlayStation product will launch before the PlayStation 5 Pro. It is expected that it will launch very soon.
Two days after Microsoft’s Xbox Series X, Series S and Series X consoles, Sony launched the PlayStation 5 globally on November 12, 2020. The PS5 was the most successful games console launch, despite its limited supply due to a global shortage of semiconductors. The console sold more than the combined Xbox Series X sales by 11.5million. Many are expecting the PS5 Pro console to be launched this year or next. However, a recent report indicated that Sony might have something to showcase in the next few weeks.
A stream of Tom Henderson’s April 1 stream was just 14 minutes and 50 seconds long. He also revealed that Sony is currently working on a new piece. Although he couldn’t give much more information, he confirmed that the product isn’t the PlayStation 5 Pro but will be released before it. Henderson indicated that the unannounced new product will surprise many, saying, “When the new hardware is announced, it’s going be very interesting for us to see how the competition views it.” But he could not give any further information except to say that there hasn’t been any reports on the new hardware.
It is hard to say what the new PlayStation hardware could be. However, some believe it could be the PlayStation Vita 2 (or a similar handheld device). There are rumors of a new Sony handheld. A post on GamingLeaksAndRumors reveals that Asus employees are aware that Sony is developing a new handheld console. These rumors could be true and Sony may be trying to compete with the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. Reddit hearsay should not be taken too seriously.
There were rumors that the PlayStation 5 Slim might be coming out, but these were quickly discredited and Henderson’s comments suggest that this new product is not what people are expecting. Although virtual reality is possible, the PlayStation VR2’s recent release seems to have ruled out any other products. Sony could also be developing a new controller, or another peripheral. There is not enough information at this time to make any prediction.
