The offensive line is still in need of answers between Thomas and Neal. Jon Feliciano, 49ers and Nick Gates, Commanders starters have left the league in free agency. This has created openings at right and center guard. Mark Glowinski is back after his first season as a Giants left guard.
Joe Schoen, the general manager, and Brian Daboll, the coach, have all mentioned Jack Anderson as a candidate for center. Then there is always the next-week’s draft.
Whoever takes this? [center] Thomas explained, “They lead the offensive line.” They make all the decisions, they are the ones who point the microphone, etc. The hole is going to be big and the person who will fill it should be well prepared. [offensive line coach Bobby Johnson] It is important that everyone knows the position in the middle and where they should go, so we can all help one another.”
Thomas said, “This will be a different combination, a group that changes every year. So the first step is to get the playbook down and make sure that our communication is on point.” Each player must be familiar with the play, know where they are going and how to get there. They should also build camaraderie within their unit as well as prepare for mini-camps and upcoming events.
Thomas isn’t above reproach either. He is aware of where he needs to improve.
Thomas stated that the most important thing to do this offseason was to work on strengthening, particularly upper body strength. This will help Thomas sit down during some of these bull rushes. Thomas said that sometimes you can get out of place and you will need boot-strength to get back into position. “I’ve been working hard on that, and then I just keep on top of hip mobility, ankle mobility, stuff like this to stay mobile.”
Thomas had ankle problems early in his career.
Thomas explained, “Being able jump and run is something that I haven’t been able do in the past two seasons.” “Hopefully, that will translate well during the season.”
