Over the years, I’ve reviewed and previewed a lot of survival games. Each game does something unique to set itself apart from the rest. Fountain of Youth: Survival It is not an exception. When I played this game during the Next Fest Summer 2022, I was intrigued by its unique features. I wanted to play a more complete version.
Fountain of Youth The story is set in the early 1500s. The game is set in the early 1500s. You play as a nameless member of Ponce de Leon’s crew on his expedition to the Caribbean and Florida, searching for the magical fountain. Your ship is shattered and you’re left on the shore.
Legendary Journey
Your adventure begins aboard the doomed vessel that will take you across the sea. The fire starts and you are trapped. Your only escape is through the broken window. But before you jump out, you will need to choose the equipment you want to use.
Each of the 10 items is very useful. Take the Leather Backpack to increase your inventory. Take the Bag of Medicine to be safe in case you fall ill. You could also play it safe and take the Bag of Medicine in case you get sick. You can also find out more about the following: Safe and take the Pistol armed with ammunition.
The first challenge you will face is to pick only two items. If you are playing the Easy difficulty, you can choose three. The limited selection is a way to grab a few items quickly before the ship burns down. I chose my usual Iron Axe & Iron Flint, and dove in the water.
Take Your Own Time
After the intro, the actual game begins. You awaken on the beach, surrounded by coconuts and crabs. Although it’s not obvious, you are most definitely on time. Fountain of Youth: Survival.
The game has many challenges, including disease and injury. It is similar to the games you might see on television. Green Hell. A bad choice, or being unlucky, can lead to a number of illnesses, such as indigestion, flu, fever, etc. What’s a little more unique about this game, however, is the addition of environmental factors. Sunburn is inevitable if you do not use sunscreen. Your injury will only worsen if you stay in the hot sun. This will negatively impact your statistics.
I’ll gladly admit that some might not like how Survival Fountain of Youth forces players to manage their time. However, I find this a refreshing break from the standard survival game.
The game’s use of time isn’t the most exciting, but this light time-pressure does make it more interesting. While combat and movement are in real-time mode, certain actions (such as harvesting) bring up a menu. Time will move forward if you harvest some resources from a tree. You will lose some durability of your tools, you stats will drop slightly (representing time passing), and all the resources are now on the ground.
I’m happy to admit that there are people who don’t like how I look. Fountain of Youth: Survival This game forces you to manage time. I find it refreshing and a change from other survival games. I haven’t played many games like this. I think this feature alone would be worth playing, if only because it is so unique.
Unraveling Mystery
More to come Fountain of Youth than, well, Survival. The story is another pleasant change from the storyless survival games of old. You will find an ancient civilization known as the Bimini on the island (and other nearby islands). The Bimini left behind “chronicles”, which show their mythology, abandoned Temples and magical potions.
You are trying to catch up with Ponce de Leon to figure out what has happened to the crew. This story enhances your survival skills by giving you a reason to keep going forward.
Fountain of Youth The game gives you plenty of freedom to decide how you wish to play.
This same forward momentum will also apply to your travel between the islands. Once you’ve finished exploring the islands of the Bird Region you will take a boat to the Buffalo Region. The second zone is more hostile, has tougher enemies, as well as stronger resources.
Fountain of Youth You are not forced to follow this path. You could build a base on the Island of Hope (where you start the game) and use fast travel to return home when you want to do some crafting. You can also opt for a nomadic feel by building a base camp in every new region. Fountain of Youth – Survival This game gives you plenty of freedom in deciding how to play.
Fountain of Youth Preview – Final thoughts
I have reached the current endpoint Fountain of Youth Survival It’s possible to finish a story in just a handful of hours. But I do caution you, that it won’t be the same for you. I was able to learn as much about the mechanics of the game by spending a few dozen hours playing the game. I would estimate it will take between 10 and twenty hours to complete the content currently available.
There are 5 planned regions, with multiple islands each. (And a few puzzles too). Early Access version of the game ends on the third island in the second area, but you can explore the entire region. This is a taste of the future.
Fountain of Youth: Survival It may not be a game that will change the survival genre forever, but as of now it’s still a solid game. The unique features of the game, such as its time system and disease system, make it stand apart from other survival games. The survival genre is a great choice for fans.
