What are the most awaited PS5 and PS4 games in 2023? Publications like Push Square Every January, they sound like a broken record and proclaim the next 12 months in video gaming to be the best. It could be true in this case: The lineup is looking Extraordinary. Obviously there’s always the potential for delays, but right now we’re looking at a literal avalanche of games.

With the New Year now here, we had to compile a list of our 60 most anticipated titles, and you’ll find that below. Please do keep in mind that if we’d have included Everything we’d be here until 2024, so this is more of a curated list of the cream of the crop. We’d love it if you stuck around until the end of this article to vote for your most wanted – and we’ve even included an Other category for those remaining releases we missed off.

Without further ado, then, let’s dig into this veritable feast of forthcoming PlayStation software…

Alan Wake II (PS5)

Alan Wake II (PS5)

Publisher: Epic Games / Developer: Remedy

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Remedy has finally released Alan Wake’s sequel, a survival horror adventure that was 13 years in the works. The book writer will now be able to write his next novel, although it’s not known how much of the original game he will use. Or he’ll have the task of dealing with the monsters around him. The latter seems more likely.

Arc Raiders (PS5)

Arc Raiders (PS5)

Publisher: Embark / Developer: Embark

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Free-to-play, co-op shooter that focuses on defending against an automated alien threat. Arc Raiders sounds incredibly videogamey, but the trailer for its debut video has us excited. The gameplay is a mix of traditional shooting and more physics-based tricks. This is one you should watch.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (PS5)

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon (PS5)

Publisher: Bandai Namco / Developer: FromSoftware

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

FromSoftware is returning to its roots with mecha sequel Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon – only this time it has the unprecedented success of Elden Ring fuelling it. Practically guaranteed to be the most popular entry in the long-running series, it’ll be interesting to see whether the Japanese developer’s new-found fame helps this hardcore robot tinkering sequel to resonate with mainstream players.

Assassin's Creed Mirage (PS5)

Assassin's Creed Mirage (PS5)

Publisher: Ubisoft / Developer: Ubisoft

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

After a couple of sprawling RPGs from Assassin’s Creed, the upcoming Mirage is being billed as a return to the classic stealth gameplay from earlier entries. You can expect more Black Box missions in Baghdad. The goal of these missions is to get you creatively thinking about how to solve each objective.

Atomic Heart (PS5)

Atomic Heart (PS5)

Publisher: Focus Entertainment / Developer: Mundfish

Date of release: 21 February 2023 (USA) / 21 February 2023 (UK/EU)

Atomic Heart looks almost too good to true. Mundfish’s first title, Atomic Heart, has a visual and gameplay style that is comparable to what you would expect from the largest AAA studios. Mundfish is still indie. Atomic Heart Could be really good — the key word being could — but we’ll remain skeptical until we have played it for ourselves.

Blue Protocol (PS5)

Blue Protocol (PS5)

Publisher: Amazon Games / Developer: Bandai Namco

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

The success of Genshin Impact has left other publishers itching for a similarly sized hit, and while Blue Protocol from Amazon Games and Bandai Namco isn’t a one-to-one clone, it’s clearly gunning for the same audience. This free-to play RPG is both playable solo and in co-op.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5)

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk (PS5)

Publisher: Team Reptile / Developer: Team Reptile

Release Date: Q3 2023 (USA) / Q3 2023 (UK/EU)

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, a Jet Set Radio sequel in every way, looks very promising. You will explore urban areas, performing tasty tricks and marking your territory with graffiti. This could be a Dreamcast-era pleasure, with Hideki Naganuma providing music and disciplines like skateboarding, BMX and inline skating.

Company of Heroes 3 (PS5)

Company of Heroes 3 (PS5)

Publisher: SEGA / Developer: Relic Entertainment

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Company of Heroes 3 is the first PlayStation game to feature the series. We can now learn more about it. This is a real time strategy game that allows you to command WWII troops on the battlefield. It was published by SEGA and made by Relic. With new controls built with console players in mind, here’s hoping this’ll be that rare thing — an RTS that’s fun to play on a pad.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (PS5)

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty (PS5)

Publisher: CD Projekt Red / Developer: CD Projekt Red

Date of release: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Cyberpunk 2077 is back, at least on a PS5. It’s also more popular than it’s ever been, with Netflix’s excellent anime adaptation attracting new crowds to Night City. Idris Elba will star in this enormous expansion, which will be the game’s one-and-only major DLC add-on.

Dead Island 2 (PS5)

Dead Island 2 (PS5)

Publisher: Deep Silver / Developer: Dambuster Studios

Release Date: 28th April 2023USA) / 28th April 2023UK/EU)

Dead Island 2 looks like it will finally get released. This is another game on the list that has been delayed a lot more than it should have in review ratings. The footage released since the re-unveiling of Dead Island 2 has been quite impressive. This could be an open world that you can switch off from. Dying Light 2 has guns, which sounds even better than Techland’s.

Dead Space (PS5)

Dead Space (PS5)

Publisher: Electronic Arts / Developer: EA Motive

Release Date: 27th January 2023USA) / 27th January 2023UK/EU)

It’s obvious that something is seriously wrong with the Dead Space remake. The PS5 reviews dropped in January and the game scored a 9/10. This survival horror game is an excellent choice, making it an easy sell for fans. EA Motive appears to have meticulously recreated USG Ishimura using beautiful 4K. The ship has been expanded with new sections and a talking protagonist. Dead Space will be a great PS5 game, there is no doubt about that.

Dead Space (PS5)
Destiny 2: Lightfall (PS5)

Destiny 2: Lightfall (PS5)

Publisher: Bungie / Developer: Bungie

Date of release: 28 February 2023USA) / 28 February 2023UK/EU)

Bungie continues on its quest to the Lightfall DLC, which is billed as the end Destiny 2 as we know. Expect the usual: another great campaign, more weapons, and a lot of players repeating the phrase “I should probably try to get back into Destiny.”

Diablo 4 (PS5)

Diablo 4 (PS5)

Publisher: Blizzard / Developer: Blizzard

Release Date: 6th Jun 2023 (USA) / 6th Jun 2023 (UK/EU)

In 2023, the king of dungeon crawlers will make a big return. Although the predecessor was controversial for its departure from Diablo 2, which is a fan favorite, this entry seems to be returning to that darker tone. We’ve already tried Diablo 4 out, and were impressed with the energizing combat, beautiful visuals, and addictive progression. This is definitely one to keep an eye on.

Exoprimal (PS5)

Exoprimal (PS5)

Publisher: Capcom / Developer: Capcom

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Dinosaurs attack in their dozens in this PvPvE experiment from Capcom, in which you’ll form uneasy alliances with opposing teams in order to fend off prehistoric threats. Armed with exosuits and futuristic combat gear, it’s hard to predict whether this will be a hit, but facing off against unthinkable hordes of triceratops certainly give it a fighting chance.

Fantavision 202X (PS5)

Fantavision 202X (PS5)

Publisher: Cosmo Machia / Developer: Cosmo Machia

Release Date: 22nd February 2023USA) / 22 February 2023UK/EU)

FantaVision, the legendary PS2 launch title, is back in a PSVR2 reimagining. Here you will have to catch and combine fireworks in a therapeutic puzzler. Expect tried and tested gameplay with added immersion, all courtesy of Sony’s new-gen headset.

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (PS5)

Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (PS5)

Publisher: Koei Tecmo / Developer: Tecmo

Release Date: 9th March 2023 (USA) / 9th March 2023 (UK/EU)

The cameras, which were previously exclusive to the Nintendo Wii, are now your primary combat options in this remastered Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. Although this is a less prominent re-release, it’s still a great option for survival horror fans.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5)

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5)

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Square Enix

Release Date: Q4 2023 (USA) / Q4 2023 (UK/EU)

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’s release date is uncertain. Square Enix gave it a “Winter” release window. However, if it manages to make it before the year’s close, we will have another amazing RPG. The story of Cloud Strife continues. In the second part, the protagonist will travel to new places in Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)

Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Square Enix

Release Date: 22nd June 2023USA) / 22nd June 2023 (UK/EU)

Final Fantasy XVI will be another Game of the Year nominee in 2023, as long as Square Enix does not muck it all up. Arriving with a good amount of excitement off the back of a lot of promising footage — both in-game and cutscenes — the journey of Clive Rosfield is one we’re greatly anticipating.

Firewall Ultra (PS5)

Firewall Ultra (PS5)

Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment / Developer: First Contact Entertainment

Release Date: 2023 (USA) / 2023 (UK/EU)

Although it had a small community, Firewall Zero Hour was a popular tactical first-person shooter on PSVR. Firewall Ultra, developed by First Contact, is now a sequel. The game will launch on the same day as PSVR2, and it will use all of the new tech to offer an immersive multiplayer experience.

Forspoken (PS5)

Forspoken (PS5)

Publisher: Square Enix / Developer: Luminous Productions

Release Date: 24th January 2023USA) / 24th January 2023UK/EU)

Square Enix’s PS5 exclusive Forspoken is finally available for purchase. This console exclusive has been praised for its magical traversal abilities as well as combat powers. Forspoken is a game you should be looking out for, even though it’s impossible to see everything in the preview.
