Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker
The critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 is well-known to most people. The entire package includes a free expanded trial and everything. But, the most important thing was that this year was the one where we all finally made it to the end. Endwalker, the fourth major expansion for the game, was released. This concluded a decade-long process. This is a story that has taken us to the edge of space and protected our own homes. It’s one that I won’t soon forget. All of this was possible with many new features and content that will keep us going throughout the year.
One could argue that content is the most important thing an MMO should have. Endwalker has seen great updates despite having less time between updates. The highlights have been new alliance raids with great boss designs and interesting theming. Even though the savage raids were more challenging, my group still had a lot of fun clearing the tiers. A boss theme play that features silly surf-rock breakdowns is a great way to have a blast beating up a vamp theater nerd. Final Fantasy 14 Online! The new Adventurer Plate system, PvP rework and Overwatch-like Payload mode are just a few of the many features that make Final Fantasy 14 Online so much fun. You can also play the Survival game or Animal-Crossing-like Island Sanctuary mode, which allows you to relax and collect materials while creating your Island. It is evident how much the development team cares about providing us with lots of activities.
But the best thing about it, even after so many years, is the story. The game was able to wrap up a decade-long story and start a new adventure. The themes and moments that led us to the final were very powerful for me. This was especially true after Shadowbringers, an outstanding expansion. Although I won’t spoil any of the story, I think FFXIV should be played by everyone. However, it is a great reminder of how far this game has advanced over the many years that I have been playing it. You will be able to follow the storylines of your characters as they change over time. I’ll never forget how it culminates in an emotional finale zone. It will often ask you as the player to reflect back on your journey and share your thoughts. It’s about the end, accepting death is inevitable. Even though some things seem impossible or difficult, it’s important to try your best and not lose sight of the goal. We can all move on despite the sorrow of a thousand lives. — Ben Janca
