Newark, N.J. — Senior guard Al-Amir Dawes (Newark, N.J.) registered his first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds and played a team-high 23 minutes as the Seton Hall men’s basketball team routed Saint Peter’s, 80-44, on Saturday afternoon in front of nearly 10,000 fans at Prudential Center.
Junior Dre Davis (Indianapolis Ind. Dawes was tied with 13 points by Junior Dre Davis (Indianapolis Ind.) after he shot 8-of-8 from the free throw line. Senior Tyrese Samuel (Montreal and Quebec, Canada) had 12 points, three rebound, two steals, and two blocks.
How it happened
Both teams went back-and-forth early, but the Peacocks reduced their deficit to one, 13-12 on a three point basket with 13:15 left in the first period. Saint Peter’s closed the first half with a 5-2 run, making it 36-23 at the halftime break. However, the Pirates opened the second half with a dominant performance. Seton Hall started the second half with a 3 pointer from junior Femi Odukale (Brooklyn N.Y.), just over a minute into the game. Then it used a 13-0 run to increase its lead to 50%-23. It kept the Peacocks at bay for almost nine minutes.
With 4:39 remaining in the contest, the Pirates had a 42-75-33 lead. This was due to Jackson’s dunk and made free throw.
