ReedPop, the new E3 organizer has revealed when E3 2023 will take place and how it will operate at a broad level. E3 2023 will feature separate dates and spaces for industry professionals and consumers. It all starts on June 11, 2013.
What are the E3 2023 dates for?
We learned earlier this year that ReedPop would take over E3 2023. Now we know when E3 2023 will be held. ReedPop will host the first E3 2019 in-person event. The “partnered digital events” are what ReedPop refers to as E3 2023, with the physical show beginning on June 13th and continuing until June 16th.
Between June 13th-15th, there will be business events that are open to both registered industry personnel and media. The next two “E3 Gamer Days” are scheduled for June 15th-16th. These will provide consumers with an opportunity to “go hands on” with the future and to talk to devs as well as media people and content creators.
Brian Crecente (Kotaku founder) pointed out this fact. on TwitterIt is understood that Summer Game Fest organizer Geoff Keighley has left E3, meaning that we don’t know yet who will be fronting the show. We’ll wait to see what ReedPop announces nearer the time.
What is the significance of next year’s E3?
E3’s last event in person was in 2019, the year before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. That pandemic caused E3 to cancel its 2020 event and to move to an online-only event for 2021. E3’s future was in question after the presentation was canceled once more last year. However ReedPop confirmed that E3 2023 would go ahead as its organizer earlier this year.
The landscape in which E3 2019 takes place is very different from the one it left behind in 2019. Many companies are reevaluating their relationships with major events such as E3, and choosing instead to announce games at their own showcases (as with the Nintendo Direct series or PlayStation’s State of Play).
Events like Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest (which is also set to return in June 2023) have sprung up in E3’s wake, too, so the show has its work cut out for it in re-establishing relevance in a changing world. The event will kick off in June 2020. We’ll be watching to see if that happens. TechRaptor will have more information on E3 2023.
