Top Pick: Soul Hackers 2—20% off
£39.99/$47.99 | Fanatical link (Opens in a new tab
Soul Hackers 2 is the latest installment in the proud “Shin Megami Tensei” series. It tells the story of a battle between two devil summoners’ cabals. This sequel is 25 years in the making. The original Soul Hackers was released on the Sega Saturn in 1997. I suppose you can’t rush perfection.
It is more combat-oriented than the Persona games. You’ll find yourself guiding your party of loveable cyberpunk demon-wranglers through various dungeons and engaging in traditional-but-rewarding turn-based JRPG combat. Even social links and confidants—the dating sim staple of the Persona series—are replaced by a set of dungeons called “Soul Matrixes” that see you diving into the minds of your companions and battling their demons, which are literal and metaphorical all at once. Soul Hackers 2 is a great way to stay on top of SMT until Joker or the Phantom Thieves arrive on our shores in October. (opens in a new tab.
Subnautica—40% off
£14.99/$17.99 | Fanatical link (opens in a new tab
I have never been one to play survival games. I struggle enough to live in real life. Subnautica was a game that I found so compelling that I spent almost 70 hours on it. It could be the subversive, ironically dry humor of the game’s anti-corporate humour or the well-paced mystery that unfolds at the core of the game’s story. Perhaps I like being around huge fish. Subnautica, whatever it may be, is the survival game that I love the most.
Shenmue 3—78% off
£5.49/$6.59 | Fanatical link (opens in a new tab
Shenmue 3 continues the adventures of Ryo Hazuki, a jiujitsu idiot. He continues his search for his father’s killer in the mountains of Guilin in China. Shenmue 3 is an odd, deliberate, and languid game. We heard all the critics that were levelled at its predecessors and replied, “Those are all good, actually.” It was a great experience. While it won’t change anyone’s mind about Shenmue, it will make the world a better place.
Kerbal Space Program—77% off
£6.89/$9.19 | Fanatical link (opens in a new tab
Because we are clearly not fit to survive here on Earth, we choose to go to space. Kerbal Space Program, the best NASA-sim available on the market, meticulously models the mechanics and physics of spaceflight. It also lets you create the deathtraps that are so explosive. Fanatical link

Now you’re not playing defense. XCOM 2 turns the defensive strategy of Firaxis’ original XCOM on its head. Now you control a group of revolutionary guerillas who are fighting to overthrow an alien dictatorship whose conquest and destruction of Earth was very successful. Fanatical link
Elite Dangerous—79% off
£4.19/$6.29 | Fanatical link (opens in a new tab
This is the best space-trucking sim available. Elite Dangerous isn’t perfect: its procedurally-generated missions can get old and its last expansion was controversial to say the least, but nothing else I’ve played captures the immensity and sublimity of space quite like it. Simply point your camera in any direction you like and then activate the frame shift drive. This is where the real fun begins.
