It’s still a mystery that Bloodborne isn’t on PC yet in 2022

Did you know Bloodborne is still available exclusively for PlayStation? The internet will not forget that Bloodborne is still a PlayStation exclusive. After a lot of Bloodborne fans had dogpiled the tweet in vain, Sony removed it. It’s not difficult for 2015’s game to become a trending topic on social media sites like Twitter. Although the fan fervor can be frustrating at times, it is ultimately based upon a sound fact: Bloodborne remains one of the most beloved modern classics. The fact that Bloodborne is available on the PS5 only at 1080p/30fps, regardless of your position on the console/PC divide shows that publisher malpractice has not been corrected. It would be much more enjoyable to play it at the 144fps speed on my gaming PC. I am not the only one.

Ghost of Tsushima (high-profile PS exclusive), God of War (lower profile) and even Days Gone (lower profile) have received patches that increase their performance on PS5, allowing for 4K and higher frame rate. Sony is determined to bring its exclusives to PC. Days Gone, God of War, and Ghost of Tsushima are both available on Steam. Bloodborne, however, remains stuck in its past.

All of these games were created by Sony’s original first-party studios. However, Elden Ring proved that From Software was more than capable of delivering great performance on the new machines. FromSoft’s technical skills are evident in Bloodborne running well on a PS5 and a PC. McDonald’s even created an official 60fps patch that can only be played on modified PS4 consoles. What’s the problem?

Purely from a business standpoint, it might seem that holding back or pausing some IP is beneficial for a company such as Sony. It’s a strategy that has worked in the past and is still effective. This is exactly what happened to From Software’s cult hero Demon’s Souls. It was stuck on an old PS3 before Bluepoint’s remake made it available for a new generation of gamers. This is a fair point. However, even Sony’s most popular franchises (like Uncharted), have seen collections, ports and remasters.

From Software has been an outstanding developer for seven years, and their legacy has only grown. The immaculate Sekiro, as well as the ambitious Elden Ring, have pushed the boundaries of their accomplishments further. That said, many Souls fans insist the Bloodborne is still their finest achievement–including me. Sony must be wasting money by not paying attention to Bloodborne in this way.

It is hard to imagine that a game of Bloodborne’s reputation and popularity would remain unfinished in an environment where well-designed games like The Last of Us Part 1 could be remastered fully. But that’s exactly what we are in.

Many theories have been proposed by fans as explanations for the silence on the radio. These theories range from plausible to ridiculous. Rumours have circulated for years that Bluepoint may be working on a remake of Bloodborne in Demon’s Souls 2020 style, or even a sequel. It is possible considering Sony holds the rights to Bloodborne and Bluepoint recently delivered a successful FromSoft remake. Some fans claim that Sony stopped production of a 4K patch to generate hype for a possible remake. As a business strategy, this seems incredibly unlikely.

Reliable insiders Jeff Grubb have reported that Bluepoint is currently working on an original project and not another remake. Grubb said that Bloodborne’s cluttered code would make it difficult, if not impossible for From Software, to craft a remaster. From itself is too busy with Elden Ring and other projects.

Although the PS3 was notoriously difficult to use, Bluepoint managed to recreate many of the original Demon’s Souls’ quirky characteristics in its remake using very little input from FromSoft. It’s difficult to say for certain, but I believe it’s within the studios’ capabilities–it just depends on whether management is willing to commit.

My part is that Miyazaki’s long-standing love for Bloodborne may have contributed to the current state of affairs. It makes sense that the director would like to remaster it or make a remake of it, given that it is Miyazakis favourite project. It is possible, however, that DLC for Elden Ring has already been completed. This suggests that the developer is prioritizing this project over any Bloodborne-related ones.

Sony could issue a patch for Bloodborne to improve its performance on PS5 to current standards regardless of the particularities of the situation. We’ve seen it in action, so we know that it is possible.

Even if you don’t like Bloodborne, it’s clear that Sony has made Bloodborne an exclusive and one of the most highly-acclaimed games in the past decade. While the fans may be annoying with their memes, overreactions to every news item, it is important to remember that they have a point. Cowards, bring Bloodborne to PC. The Old Blood requires it.
