Phil Spencer spoke with Famitsu recently during Tokyo game Show 2022. There, he talked about the future goals for Series X in Japan. Phil cited, “Japan is a major market for Xbox. We are pleased that the Xbox Series X (and Xbox Series S) are now being accepted in Japan.”
He added that the new consoles had done well in two years of their sales. It has also seen an increase in popularity among Japanese developers. He stated, “It is increasing in number of games that can be played on Xbox by Japanese producers.”
Phil stated that there has been a significant increase in the number of Japanese users on the platform. He mentioned, “One of the things that I’m feeling very positive about is that the number of new users has increased considerably.”
Due to the recent pandemic, this caused supply problems. However, Phil also mentioned that the supply is improving soon, “I anticipate that the supply of Xbox Series X will increase at some point in 2023. The demand, on the other hand is at an all time high.”

With the Xbox Series S, more people are trying Xbox for the first-time.”
Phil recommends Series S for insecure times because of its low price and high performance. “The Xbox Series S is the best home video game console and is relatively affordable. I believe the Xbox Series S is a great piece of hardware that suits the current times.”
Phil also discussed the popularity of Xbox Game Pass Japan. He replied, “Yes. Xbox Game Pass is an excellent service that makes Xbox Game Pass stand out from other platforms. There are many users who are playing Xbox because they have Xbox Game Pass.”
The CEO wants to offer more opportunities to Japanese developers to join the Game Pass. “Japanese creators see Xbox Game Pass as a place to sell their games. Xbox Game Pass already includes over 100 Japanese titles I’d like to speak to other creators regarding such opportunities in the near future.”
Phil Spencer is also looking to expand the number of users and regions where Game Pass is available, “I would like more people to play, and I would like to increase the number of regions where it can be used.”
He also talked about how the pandemic affected his first-party party lineup. This will be improved next year. He mentioned, “We will have a strong lineup starting in 2023, according to me. We look forward to seeing you there, with all the variety of creatives.” When asked whether many games are planned post-2023, Phil Spencer hilariously replied, “Jesus!”
Furthermore, Phil elaborated on Xbox’s relationship with Japanese developers. “we have listened to the opinions of Japanese game creators and received their feedback, asking, “What is necessary for our platform?”. I think that improving it … leads to trust and leads to the release of games on Xbox.”
He continued, “I believe this feedback loop will lead us to more Japanese games in the future. This is a positive trend that I like.”
