After 15 seasons with six major league clubs, O’Day has decided to retire

ATLANTA — Right-hander Darren O’Day had a 4.15 ERA in 28 games for the Atlanta Braves in 2022. Monday’s announcement was made by O’Day that he would be retiring after fifteen seasons of service with six teams in major leagues.

O’Day said on his Twitter account “it’s finally time to hang ’em up.”

“The mental, physical and time demands have finally outweighed my love for the game,” O’Day said.

O’Day was 40 and had an unusual sidearm delivery. O’Day was 42-21 and had a 2.59 ERA over 644 games. This was all in relief. In 2008, he made his major league debut with the Angels. He pitched seven seasons for the Baltimore Orioles from 2012-18.

In 30 games postseason, he had a 4.43 ERA, which included the 2010 World Series for the Texas Rangers.

O’Day has also pitched for the New York Mets as well as the New York Yankees. O’Day pitched for the Braves from 2019-20, before returning to the team for his second stint. Following the season, he was granted free agency.

He set a record for Baltimore with six saves in 2015. In 2015, he was 6-2 and had a 1.52 ERA. He was also an AL All-Star.
