‘Parasite’ directors told Hwang that working on new projects will help after ‘Squid Game’ success
Hwang shares his feelings about being nominated for several Emmy awards that have made history in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Squid Game The cast and this series are the first to be nominated for major categories.
“This long journey that Squid Game has been on is like a dream,” said Hwang. “I am nominated for both writing and directing. This is more dramatic for me than any other nomination. [protagonist] Gi-hun wins the Squid Game. It’s like a miracle.” But with fame also comes expectations from the masses.

Variety reported in April 2022 that Hwang was working on a new feature movie with a darker story, in the same area of K-drama. “I had to work on my next project and also have meetings with lawyers, managers, agents and studios. I am also working on a feature movie and have a deadline for finishing season 2.
