Sony quietly drops PS5 Tournaments The public beta information was made available yesterday. This is presumably in preparation for Gamescom 2022 which runs until Sunday. ResetEra user modiz noticed that the Tournaments page can only be viewed in certain countries (you can access it through a U.S. VPN), but provides details about the forthcoming PS5 Tournaments feature.
Overview of PS5 Tournaments
Both the PS5 Tournaments feature as well as its public beta will be available in select countries in “coming weeks.” We currently don’t have a full list of countries but the U.S. is a lock. Here’s an official overview:
- Tournaments that are easily found You can access tournaments from places you already know, such as the Game Hub and the PS5 Control Center. This makes it easy to find the right competitions for you. To access tournaments, launch the Control Center by pressing the PS button when a game is available.
- Sign up for the Seamless on-console service: Registering is quick and easy, right from your PS5 console.
- Tournament times are shorter Bracket capping is a new mechanic we’re bringing to PlayStation Tournaments. Tournament length is traditionally increased when there are more players. To minimize this effect, tournament length will be limited to ensure that every tournament runs smoothly. Multiple brackets can be created for the same tournament if the cap is exceeded.
- Higher tournament frequency Tournaments will now be offered more frequently and more regularly, so players can choose a time that suits them best.
- All-new UI: PlayStation Tournaments for PS5 features a new UI integrated into the action cards framework. While playing a game, you can access the Control Center to pull up your bracket or other information about the tournament. You will have a more enjoyable tournament experience, from start to finish. All the information you need is at your fingertips.
-
Automatic reporting and real-time match results: Match results are displayed immediately and automatically reported as the bracket progresses. Additionally, you can view the status of all brackets at any moment.
-
Prizing: There will be prizes at each tournament. Some tournaments may even have unique rewards just for playing. Every player is eligible for a chance at the prize money, regardless of their skill level.
