SAN FRANCISCO—-(BUSINESS WIRE)–Skillz (NYSE: SKLZ), the leading mobile games platform, today announced the appointment of Vassily Filippov to the role of Chief Technology Officer. An experienced gaming leader who most recently served as the Director of Engineering at Meta, Filippov joins the Skillz C-suite, further bolstering the company’s executive team and product leadership bench.

Filippov, who will be the Chief Technology Officer at Skillz, will report to Paradise. Filippov will lead the technical roadmap of Skillz Competition Platform as the company strives for profitable growth.

Filippov grew up playing C64 and Atari 800XL games. He turned his childhood love for video games into a successful career that spans over 20 years. Filippov has made games at studios such as Sony, Riot Games, and Sierra On-Line, working on franchises including “God of War” and “League of Legends.”
Filippov has been focusing on the growth of teams and the development of products related to AR/VR/the metaverse. Filippov worked at Meta on the Horizon Worlds & Avatars teams. This helped prepare the company for a major focus on metaverse. While at Apple, Filippov was responsible for the development of RealityKit as well as Reality Composer.
Filippov obtained his Masters of Science degree (computer science) from The Ohio State University. He also earned a Masters of Science Degree in applied mathematics at the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
