Splatoon 3 was launched in Japan with great success. It has seen the highest domestic sales in three days for any Switch title.
The game was released in Japan on Friday. It has been downloaded 3.45 million times digitally and physically since its launch.
This shows how popular the game in Nintendo’s home markets is and how important the Splatoon IP was, surpassing even Animal Crossing New Horizons, which had the previous best Japanese launch.
Its impact elsewhere is not as great.
According to GamesIndustry.biz the game is number one on the UK boxed chart. This marks the first time the game has reached this position. The previous two games were at number two.
Launch sales are down 9 percent compared to Splatoon 2 but this is only physical sales and does not include digital purchases via the eShop.
The WiiU’s infamy WiiU released the first Splatoon game, but was overtaken by The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. Splatoon 2 was also released in early stages of the Switch’s lifecycle, along with Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy.
Splatoon 3, which saw a drop of 66% in sales from last week, falls to fourth.
Horizon: Forbidden West continues to be the second most popular game. This is likely due in part to ongoing PlayStation 5 bundle sales.
