Hwang stated that he had already created games for the second season, and was currently writing a script. However, he was having trouble with dead characters like Ji-young or Sae-byeok.
The new season will air next year and be released in 2024.
“I want Jiyoung to live again, but her best buddy Sae-byeok died, so I’m pondering what to do,” he said to a news conference held in Seoul together with the drama’s cast and crew.
“So many characters lost their lives, especially the ones they loved. “I’m sorry, I killed them so quickly; I didn’t know this was coming.”
Hwang’s unimaginable journey with the series was exemplified by his Emmy’s directing award. But he was disappointed to not win the trophy for best Drama Series, which went instead to HBO’s “Succession”.
“Obviously, the best drama series was what I wanted to see. He said that, above all, the moment where the entire team takes to the stage at the end is the most important.
“When I first heard the ‘S” sound at the announcement, I assumed it was a squid. But then, it turned out that it was a’succession. I can still remember feeling a little disappointed,” he continued, with a wicked smile.
