Players are presented with many options when creating a character at the start of Stardew Valley.
Some affect gameplay while others don’t at all. One common question is, “What does the Favorite Thing in Stardew Valley do?”

The character creation screen offers players many options. There are 2 genders to choose from, as well as 24 skin tones and 32 hairstyles.
You can also alter the color of your hair, eyes, and pants. One choice can affect gameplay is animal preference. You decide which pet will be brought to the farm.
In-game relationships are unaffected by gender so choose either.
Stardew Valley Favorite Things Explanation
Favorite Thing is one of the last options. Favorite Thing, a custom text field on character creation screen, is referenced in Stardew Valley every time the player eats stardrops.
For example, if you enter “apples” as your favorite thing, when you eat a stardrop you will be shown the following message:
A stardrop was found! Your mind is full of thoughts about Apples. Your maximum energy level has risen.
And the other effect your favorite thing has is… absolutely nothing. It does nothing else.
It serves one purpose, and that is to tell you when you eat stardrops that they remind you of something you love.
You should be careful about what you choose to call your favorite thing. This would be a strange situation if Grandma was your favorite thing or Ted your best friend.
Secret Favorite Thing
There is however one secret. Enter ConcerendApe and select ConcerendApe to be your favorite thing. You will receive a secret messages. Instead of the standard message, you’ll get:
ConcerendApe is the name of the creator of Stardew Vale. Eric Barone is his real name and he singlehandedly programmed the game, wrote it’s story and dialogue, and created all the art and sound effects.
He worked for four years to bring us this game. We can pay him an homage by making Stardew Valley our favorite thing.
This is it. The Stardew Valley character creation screen’s favorite thing field serves no purpose and does not impact your gameplay.
You can have some fun moments when you do spot a stardrop.
