On Oct. 23, The Price is Right Live will be coming to the Wharton Center. Students can win huge prizes by taking part in this game show.
For a chance at winning a share in the $12 million prize pool, contestants can play games such as Plinko and Cliffhangers or The Big Wheel.
Bob Hoffman, Wharton Center Manager of Public Relations, said that the show was sold-out when it visited East Lansing back in 2012. The excitement was so intense that Hoffman was working at the event when a woman saw his The Price is Right shirt. She loved it so much, that Hoffman took it off of his back to give it to her.
“It just brings such a diverse audience … Everyone was just so excited to be there,” Hoffman said. It’s always just fun to shuffle. It’s fun and you have fun. It’s Americana. It’s been on forever.”
Rayna Gold, Theatre junior and Wharton Students president believes that students might perceive the gameshow as more for a family audience than students. The prized of winning a contest is offered to those who register. She thinks this could encourage interest from “broke college” students.
Gold stated, “Honestly, I did not know that The Wharton Center hosted shows like Price is Right and had interactive TV shows to come here to us.” “We think it’s a great opportunity for new and more people or people who aren’t necessarily interested in the arts to come to the Wharton Center.”
Janelle Hopkins is the head of Meridian Entertainment Lansing and knows that the Wharton’s space can be used to put up a Hollywood-esque stage. Anyone who is passionate about The Price is Right, and is willing to play the games hosted by it, is the ideal contestant.
“The show is for everyone,” Hopkins said. Hopkins said that the show is popular with families who have younger relatives through grandparents. It’s great for quality family time because The Price is Right is not age-based. However, you must be 18 to participate in the contest. We have lots of couples that come and lots of ladies night outs.”
The tour has yet to pick a Lansing host but the team is looking forward to seeing who can bring the energy, life and excitement to campus.
The interactive game show will take part in Cobb Great Hall on October 23rd at 6:15 p.m. Tickets at $44.50 will allow you to celebrate with the contestants and the winners of the great prizes that Price is Right offers.
