Only the highest-ranking players in FPS can obtain Valorant leaderboards. Riot made it much more difficult to break into the leaderboard. Patch 5.08 will set a limit on the number Immortals allowed to appear on the premium board.
Riot now has a more direct strategy to combat saturation, after trying the MMR boost for Immortal. Each region will have a crowd cap that will immediately kick low ELO Immortals from the board.
“We agree with feedback that in some regions there are too many players on the leaderboard, and after a certain number leaderboard rank loses a lot of its lusttr. We are rolling out a cap to the amount of players that can appear on the leaderboard on a region-by-region basis,” says Valorant’s community manager Jo-Ellen Aragon.
Moving forward, you won’t appear on the leaderboard until you have reached the top X number of players. Here’s how the cap looks for each region:
- Korea (KR)- 5k
- LATAM – 5k
- Brazil (BR) – 5k
- North America (NA)- 10k
- Asia Pacific (AP) – 15k
- Europe (EU) – 15k
While the new restriction will not affect players ability to reach Immortal, it will give them another reason to keep grinding. A leaderboard that does not have a ranking is no longer serves its purpose. It loses its ability to reward players with a sense achievement. Still, not everyone is pleased with Riot’s decision to lock the board.
The community believes the real problem lies in the oversaturation and corruption of Immortals. Riot has attempted to rectify this issue over the last few months. Valorant’s growing player base has led to numerous changes in how ranks work. The developer had previously added a green Ascendant badge to the ranks between Diamond and Immortal due to the growing population.
That wasn’t Riot’s first effort to monitor rank progression. Valorant MMR was the first to see a revision to preserve the prestige and make it harder for Immortal+, Valorant MMR also saw this adjustment. This was all done in an effort to make low ranks and leaderboards less crowded. Whether tweaking MMR distribution or introducing Ascendant, deserving players always breeze through the ‘Elo hell’ of Gold and Silver.
