The World Builders offer multiple methods of in-game progress. While some of these methods are more aggressive than others, they still provide the effort’s worth.
However, what can you do when you can’t even locate the source of getting stronger? Stardew Valley has seen this question asked more often than usual.
Stardew Valley is a wealth of information. It is kept secret to keep the Blacksmith from being discovered by the player base. This can hinder your in-game progress. Therefore, we recommend you start looking for the area as soon as it’s made available.
The Blacksmith is not open beyond a specific time each day. Therefore, we recommend you make upgrades in bulk, such that your character progression isn’t halted in any way.
Who is The Blacksmith?
The ‘Blacksmith’ in Stardew Valley refers to a shop that’s located on the outskirts of the city. Clint is the one responsible for running that shop and offers a plethora of weapon and tool upgrades – given you have enough gold to afford them.
The shop also sells non-metal and metal ores at a certain price. But, like the real thing, prices will increase and double every year starting in 2.
Having said that, here’s the Blacksmith shop’s stock available for purchase:
Name of the item | Description | Year 1 Price |
Year 2+ Price |
---|---|---|---|
Copper Ore | A common material ore – generally smelted into bars. | 75g | 150g |
Iron Ore | A common material ore – generally smelted into bars. | 150g | 250g |
Coal | A rock that’s subjected to combustion. It is used in crafting, smelting, and other uses. | 150g | 250g |
Gold Ore | A precious material ore – generally smelted into bars. | 400g | 750g |
Clint may also be interested in certain items. While the sale price is extremely low, it’s much better than throwing them out for free or letting useless materials rot in your inventory.
The Main Purpose of Blacksmith
The Blacksmith can be used to upgrade your equipment and sell it. While he’s only limited to four main tools, it’s still one of the only ways to progress.
With that said, you’d have to bring your own materials in order to make the upgrades. You can buy most of them but the Iridium Bars will need to be purchased from the respective locations and not the Blacksmith Shop.
With that being said, here’s what you can and cannot make:
Names of Items | Copper Cost | Steel Cost | Cost of Gold | Iridium Cost |
Hoe | 2000g + Copper Bar (5) | 5000g + Steel Bar (5) | 10000g + Gold bar (5) | 25000g + Iridium Bar |
Pickaxe | 2000g + Copper Bar (5) | 5000g + Steel Bar (5) | 10000g + Gold bar (5) | 25000g + Iridium Bar |
Axe | 2000g + Copper Bar (5) | 5000g + Steel Bar (5) | 10000g + Gold bar (5) | 25000g + Iridium Bar |
Watering can | 2000g + Copper Bar (5) | 5000g + Steel Bar (5) | 10000g + Gold bar (5) | 25000g + Iridium Bar |
Trash Can | 1000g + Copper Bar (5) | 2500g + Steel Bar (5) | 5000g + Gold bar (5) | 12500g + Iridium Bar |
Clint is also able to open geodes for 25g. Since every geode costs the same to open, the rarity won’t matter when it comes to giving the most bang for your buck.
Blacksmith Hours
Before you head to the Blacksmith it’s important to determine if the investment is worthwhile. The last thing you’d want is to waste countless steps finding the Blacksmith, only to see the shop closed.
While camping just outside is a viable option, it’s better if you don’t make a mistake in the first place. The Blacksmith is generally open between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
However, Clint’s Fridays are a bit shorter, so you will see the shop pretty much closed after the Community Center has been restored. This mostly only happens during the winter season, so you’re good to go otherwise.
However, if you’re inside the shop during the closing time, then you will remain in until you’re done with your business. Clint will be gone after 5 p.m. You can still interact with the counter.
Where is The Blacksmith?
You will need to go to the east side, or Pelican Town, to find the Blacksmith. Continue on the right path to your farmhouse until you reach a bridge.
You can cross the bridge and continue on to the Museum. The Blacksmith is located just north of there, so it’s only a matter of going forward from there onwards.
Clint’s Unusual Timetable
Clint adheres to a strict schedule when opening and closing the shop. You should be able to tell when you need to leave and when you can wait until a better day to start your blacksmith business.
With that said, here’s how Clint is programmed to operate whenever he’s not in his shop:

Since the time in Stardew Valley flows much faster than in the real world, you’d still be able to meet him – given you’re willing to spend a day camping outside.
